Wonder Tool - Camera Track

Camera Tracking refers to the process of accurately replicating and reproducing the movement of a real-world camera within a 3D digital environment. This provides the foundation for integrating computer-generated visuals seamlessly into live-action footage.

Camera Track, also known as match moving or camera motion tracking, is a VFX feature in Autodesk Flow Studio that synchronizes the movement of a virtual camera in 3D space with the movement of a real camera used in live-action scenes.

Camera Tracking is now available as a standalone Wonder Tool, designed for users who want to extract camera movement from their footage, regardless of an actor’s performance. Unlike the Live Action project type, the Camera Tracking Wonder Tool allows users to match camera motion even in footage that does not feature actors.

Limitations and Shooting Tips/Best Practices

The camera tracking system performs best under the following conditions:

Wide shots
Motion that produces a change in perspective (parallax)
Shooting surfaces with distinctive features
Consistent lighting

For optimal results, avoid:

Fast camera motion
Extreme closeups
Overcrowded scenes
Featureless, empty spaces
Variable zoom within the shot (this is not currently supported)

Note:

Shots without actors will be processed, but the scale of the camera track may be less accurate. This can be easily adjusted manually, if needed.

Additional Tips and Limitations

For successful camera tracking, it is good to have:

Wide shots
Visible feet
Motion that creates parallax
Surfaces with distinctive features
Consistent lighting

Try to avoid for best results:

Variable zoom within the shot
Extreme closeups
Overcrowded scenes
Moving vehicles or other moving objects
Excessive motion blur
Fast camera movements
